Lizzy and Sam Wedding - Nevada City, CA

Lizzy and Sam came down from Idaho and were married at the beautiful LDS Temple in Sacramento. Such a sweet couple and I enjoyed telling the story of their reception celebration later in the evening, with my photography, at the LDS Chapel in Nevada City, CA. Many friends and family from all over the U.S. gathered there to share in the celebration. I worked along side videographer Greg Whatley at Mountain Event Productions. First time working with Greg,... delightful and very professional. It was already dark when Lizzy and Sam arrived on this crisp December evening so worked in tandem with Greg's video light and my off camera flash to get some nice portraits outside, before they went inside to greet the guests. They look warm in the photos,.. dare I say "Hot", but it was definitely chilly tempwise.

Future wedding photographer, perhaps?

Kids are always,always, at the forefront during the cake cutting. That sweetness to be is just too tempting.

Mayan Ruins of Tulum, Mexico

The ruins of a walled city near Tulum, Mexico were occupied by the Mayan people from around 564 AD to 1521 AD. The backdrop of the spectacular turquoise Caribbean Sea sets is apart from the other Mayan ruins in Mexico and is a photographers delight. Because of my architectural background the ruins had a particular interest to me and when I had the opportunity to phtograph Maggie and Ben's destination wedding in Tulum, seeing, and getting some shots, of the ruins was big on my "to do" list.

While at the ruins, a French film crew was working with beauty queens on a shoot. I took about 5 shots during a break and Miss Rhone-Alpes (southeast part of France), Virginie Dechenaud, saw the telephoto lens on my camera and started posing, .. never took her eye off. That's a pro model!

This beautiful beach, surrounded by the ruins, is protected by the Mexican govenment for nesting sea turtles.

Sorena and Chris Wedding - Sacramento, CA

Sorena and Chris were married at Arden Hills Spa and Country Club in Sacramento. It was the first time in many years that I've attended a wedding where I was not the photographer. I just relaxed and enjoyed the celebrations of this wonderful couple. Of course, I couldn't completely not do what I love to do, so with my one body and lens that I brought, I did what most guests do, .... shot a few pics to remember their special day, for myself. Love it!

Dr. Nani will have a new look to her website soon. Terrilyn Chance is taking on the design task and they asked me to provide photos that could be used in the new design. Always happy to do so, whenever I get a "chance" to work with Terrilyn. Enjoyed meeting and photographing Stephanie and her husband, who assisted as the subject of her examination. Even had the opportunity to snap a few shots of them as a couple, my specialty, at the end of the session. The photos all took place in and around Dr. Nani's office and we took advantage of the last remaining falls colors on the trees in front of the complex.

Sorena and Chris were married at Arden Hills Country Club in Sacramento on 11/11/11 at 11:11 !! What a great date! Beautiful and talented Sorena has been my asst/2nd shooter on many weddings and now it was her turn, along with Chris, to be in the eye of the camera. I shot these photos for their engagement at the gorgeous Empire Mine State Park in Grass Valley, CA. Oh, really loved how they turned out. Congratulations to a very happy couple!!

Maggie and Ben - Trash the Dress, Tulum, Mexico Part 2

For part two, later in the evening, we went to the gorgeous white sand beach and turquoise water that is typical of the Mayan Riviera of Mexico. Oh, Mexico! ..Always awesome times there. Tulum, in the Mayan Riviera, was the setting for Maggie and Ben's gorgeous destnation wedding on the beach. Playa Azul was the beautiful resort which hosted the wedding and provided outstanding services, and Morgan at Tulum Weddings and Events was wonderful, coordinating from Mexico. Many friends and family made the trip down to join in the celebrations and fun, some traveling from Poland. Ten days after Hurricane Rina visited the weather was perfect. Maggie and Ben were awesome and we had 4 days of fun photo sessions. Here are a few of the wedding, part 1. Enjoy!

Last week while I was in the Mayan Riviera of Mexico shooting Maggie and Ben's wonderful 4 day wedding adventure I had the opportunity to meet up with Matt Adcock and Sol Tamargo, husband and wife cofounders of of Del Sol Photography, whose work I have long admired. They have some of the most amazing underwater "trash the dress" images I have ever seen! We hooked up in Playa Del Carmen and yakked about wedding photography for about an hour and half while I was waiting for my daughter's ferry to return from the island of Cozumel. Del Sol Photography produces stunning and inspirational images and was named by American Photo magazine as one of the top ten wedding photographers in the world. A warm, gracious and talented couple with an awesome team. If you are planning on getting married in the Mayan Riviera of Mexico you should check them out!

Merrill and Doug Wedding - Auburn, CA

The oldest church in Placer County, CA, Pioneer Methodist, was the wonderful setting for Merrill and Doug's beautiful wedding. Many friends and family were there to witness the exchange of vows. Weather can be iffy this time of year but it was a gorgeous day and we shot photos inside with the stained glass windows and outside on the manicured grounds. The reception was held at the awesome Blue Goose in Loomis, CA. The food was catered by Back Texas Forty BBQ. Lots of little kiddos to take photos of, great music, dancing, and toasts, as love was in the air. My kind of fun!

Louis Valentine Johnson - Portrait Session

Composer and classical guitarist Louis Valentine Johnson is coming out with an updated website and soon a new cd. I was happy to do a photo session with Lou to supply him with images he may use. Northstar Mine Powerhouse in Grass Valley, CA provided the "Old World" look that he was wanting. Very much enjoyed the session and music Lou played while I was shooting. Sara and Mike Portrait Session - Grass Valley, CA

Sara has so many fond memories of her grandparents home that she and Mike chose to have their portraits taken there. I love shooting at new places and what a great location it was! The charm, country setting of the old home, and many natural features of the site made it ideal for photos. Sara and my daughter, Sonya, have been dancing together for many years but it was my first opportunity to meet Mike. Sara and Mike met at a high school football game 7 years ago and the chemistry was set in motion. They are a perfect couple and it was wonderful to play around with them to get some creative photos, the kind Sara was dying to get. I sure had a blast taking them!

Merrill and Doug Engagement - Grass Valley, CA

Merrill and Doug are getting married this month! Down to the wire, ...the engagement session can be checked off their list of things to do. We met up at Northstar Mine Powerhouse in Grass Valley which is always a beautiful setting for photos. We had a fun time and there's a bit of hiking and climbing involved in getting to some of the prime spots for photos, but they were up to the task. Paid off in some very nice photos. Many, many, very cool cars at the car show today in Grass Valley, CA, sponsored by the local Roaming Angels Car Club. The setting was the beautiful Nevada County Fairgrounds with it's tall pines. Love old cars, .. here are a few photos. The firetruck and police car photos are in honor of the public servants who gave all in the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01, 10th anniversary.

Brittney and Sean Engagement - Yuba River Bridge at Hwy 49

The old Hwy 49 bridge over the Yuba River made a wonderful backdrop for the engagement session of Brittney and Sean. It was pretty warm and I wore my sandals so was able to wade around in the river some for a few of the photos. Oh, man, that water felt good! Shot lots of photos at the bridge before but the first time that I shot an engagement session here, .. will definitely come back for more! Shooting on a Tues we were surprised to see so many people on a weekday, the parking lot was full, but really wasn't too hard to work around that. Even saw Bonnie and Gabe there. Photographed their wedding in June.

Brittney and Sean are a fun loving couple who met at NU high school here in Nevada County but now live near Monterrey, CA., and are getting married at the Schramm Estate in Nevada City next June. Looking forward to shooting their wedding!

Elizabeth and Darren Wedding - Empire Mine State Park, CA

The manicured grounds of Empire Mine State Park in Grass Valley, CA was the backdrop for the beautiful outdoor wedding of Elizabeth and Darren on a "picture" perfect Saturday. They elected to see each other before the ceremony with a special First Look mini photo session. A fun twist that has become more popular recently. Most of the family and group photos were taken prior to the ceremony so a quicker getaway to the reception location at Lake Wildwood Community Center in Penn Valley, Ca could be had.

Christa and Larry Wedding - El Dorado Hill, CA

Christa and Larry recited their nuptials at their beautiful home in El Dorado Hills, Ca, before many friends and family, in an outdoor ceremony on a pleasant summer evening. Unbeknownst to the bride, groom, and officiant, many of their friends became participants in the ceremony when the officiant asked "who has the ring". Simultaneously aprx 40 people stood up with rings, saying "I have it", and proceeded to swarm the bride, each placing their ring on her hand. It was both hilarious and beautiful, .. and another photo op for me!

Bill Pence Music provided the excellent dj services and lent his fabulous voice as well. The meal was sumptuous, a whole pig was roasted on an open spit. Everyone had a grand time! Congratulations and All the Best to Larry and Christa on their beautiful wedding!

Heidi and Greg Wedding - Lake Tahoe

Gorgeous Lake Tahoe on a perfect summer day was the backdrop for Heidi and Greg's beautiful wedding. The outdoor ceremony and indoor reception were held at the North Lake Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach, CA. and many friends and family came up the hill and were on hand to witness the moving exchange of vows. Very cute surprise at the reception as Heidi played her wedding gift guitar and sang to Greg after the toasts! Tim Smith, The Tune Doctor, kept the dance floor lively and hopping with his arsenal of songs.

Many thanks to my talented second shooter for this event, Adrian Schneider, it's great to have back up. Photos 5, 7, 8, 16, 19, & 27 on my blog post were taken by him. Sure was a fun day in the mountains!

The beautiful and rustic backdrops of the Northstar Mine Powerhouse in Grass Valley was the setting for this fun photo session. Christa and Larry were great sports as some trekking and climbing was required to get to some of the good areas for photos. The session became even more adventurous when a slightly unstable man became persistent in interrupting us and directly blocked my way. Fortunately, Larry, who is in law enforcement, presented himself with considerable authority and a badge. The problem took off in a big way, Larry was the hero, and we all had a good laugh about it. Yeah, I know, I should have got some pictures of that, ..what was I thinking? Another very exciting engagement session, and very much looking forward to a fun wedding this month in El Dorado Hills, CA.

Heidi and Greg Engagement - Bridgeport Covered Bridge

The historic Bridgeport Covered Bridge was the awesome setting for Heidi and Greg's photo session. Spanning the Yuba River it is the longest single span covered bridge in the U.S., right in our backyard. Their friendly, photogenic pooch, Ratchet, came along for a few shots, too. A fun loving couple, both very much water people, hot day, ... so you know what that means, .. in the water for a mini "trash the dress" session at the end. They get married next month on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. The water is colder there, .. will it happen again?? Stay tuned!

Katie and Scott celebrated their vows before many family and friends at a beautiful outdoor ceremony at the Roth Estate in Nevada City, CA. Katies folks were given a canoe at their wedding and that same canoe, "the wedding canoe", was used by Katie and Scott for some awesome shots on the pond, located on the estate. Darren was helping dj at Katie and Scott's wedding outside of Nevada City that I shot last Saturday. Small world. Elizabeth and Darren killed two birds with one stone when they came up from San Francisco last weekend as we got together at the rustic Northstar Mine Powerhouse Museum in Grass Valley to shoot their engagement session, while they were up here in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Fun couple, fun session! They will be getting married next month at the beautiful Empire Mine State Park, looking forward to that. Chelsey and William Wedding

The Miller's have a working sheep ranch west of Nevada City, CA that they lease out an area, known as Miller's Pond, for weddings, parties, etc. Pretty cool! But now after many years of weddings it appears this may be their last year for weddings as county red tape is pushing them into retirement. ... will be missed.
Chelsey and Willie's beautiful wedding may be one of the last ones to take place there, and it was a doozy. Beautiful weather and pond, vintage Ford pickup, lots of friends and family, yummy food, cake, and refreshments, and great tunes, all spell out a GOOD time! Lindsay and Josh Wedding

Lindsay and Josh were married outdoors in a beautiful ceremony in the Sierra Nevada foothills near Foresthill, CA. The venue was the gorgeous Monte Verde Inn which deserves their stellar reputation for hosting weddings, ... the cake, food, everything, .. terrific!
Lindsay and Josh have a wonderful contingent of family and friends who joined in the celebration. Lots of cute kiddos, too, which are always fun to photograph. The weather was perfect and the manicured grounds have many settings for beautiful photos.

Bonnie and Gabe Wedding

Bonnie and Gabe celebrated their love with many friends and family at a beautiful outdoor ceremony amongst the pines at Harmony Ridge Lodge in Nevada City, CA. Gabe is from Canada and many of his relatives came down to witness the vows and join the celebration. Finally, terrific weather after such a rainy May. Jennifer and Jason Wedding

Jennifer and Jason were married before many friends and family at the gorgeous Empire Mine State Park in Grass Valley, CA a couple of weeks ago. May weather this year has been unseasonably wet here in N. California and rain was forecast for the day. Spirits undaunted, a large tent was set up for the ceremony and reception and plans did a zig and a zag and the beautiful celebration went on with enthusiasum. The rain let up at periods and full advantage was taken to get great photos around the wonderfully manicured grounds. Additionally, the accomodating park rangers allowed the wedding party to use the historic old clubhouse for more photo ops. It was awesome to see the love and optimism displayed in this fun couple. Kate Gaffney's band was killer and the place was hopping. Some of the hard working vendors who deserved thanks are Foothill Florist (Marie) for the lovely flowers and Patty Hanford who catered the delicious dinner! Many thanks to my talented second shooter, Sorena, who did an amazing job helping me out and some of her photos are posted below as well! It was a pleasure for us both to have the opportunity to photograph your special day, Jen and Jason! Congratulations!

Chelsey, William, Damien, and I had a fun photo session yesterday at the rustic Northstar Mine Powerhouse in Grass Valley, CA. "Aunt Becky" came along to help with Damien and I got a few shots of her and Damien, too! They're getting married next month at Millers Pond in Nevada City and I'm looking forward to shooting there for the first time. Mary and Ryan Wedding

It rained on Mary and Ryan's outdoor wedding. It wasn't forecast. I thought I was in Tahiti for a second with all the gorgeous tropical flowers supplied by Aloha Florist. Last week Kristina and Alex were married, before many friends and family, in a beautiful outdoor ceremony beside a pond at a private residence in Rough and Ready, CA. Kristina's mom and friends did a wonderful job with decorating and taking on all the preparations for the big event! It was a bit cool for May, but a big sigh of relief when the sun broke through the clouds before the ceremony and the threatening rains held off. Kristina and Alex are so perfect for each other, it was a joy to photograph their wedding The toasts were heart warming, the cakes and food were delicious, and the music was lively. Bear River High School Dance Performance - 2011

Last week Joyce Gouveia's dance I & II students at Bear River High School performed in the 15th annual Celebration of Dance. The wonderfully entertaining show also celebrated the 25th anniversary of Bear River High School with a dance choreographed to span that period of time. I photographed two of the five performances for Mrs Gouveia and all the photos will be posted online in a few days at Pictage. American Profile Magazine "Wagons, Ho!"

A great cover story about wagon trains was published nationally today in American Profile and I had the good fortune to be the assigned photographer. Marti Attoun, contributing editor, wrote the article in her wonderful, descriptive, storytelling style. The Hwy 50 Wagon Train Association is made up of a fun and friendly group of people passionate about preserving the role of wagon trains and pioneers in the history of N. California. The article focuses on their annual week long journey from Lake Tahoe, over Echo Summit in the Sierras, to Placerville, CA. I'm sure the publicity from this story will help in their efforts. Katie and Scott Engagement - Bridgeport

Katie and Scott came down from Oregon over Easter weekend and we met up at the historic Bridgeport covered bridge here in beautiful Nevada County, CA, for their engagment session. We had a 3 day window in which to choose a few hours without rain, ... lucked out, it began raining right as we finished up. This wonderful old bridge, built in 1862, and spanning the Yuba River, at 251 feet, is the longest single span covered bridge in the U.S. Photo ops abound in and around the bridge and Katie and Scott are a fun loving couple who were willing to try all suggestions to get some cool photos. ... as long as it didn't involve snakes, right Katie? I told them the story about my table tennis buddy who had his picture snapped while hiking on a trail near the bridge and after the photo was printed he noticed in the picture there was a big rattler only a few feet away from him. Oh, and about the pic with the leg action, Scott made sure I got a shot of his boots, the whole boot in one photo. Fun time! Gonna be a great wedding!

I'm Lar-bear to her), and mom Connie, and I met up at the Northstar Mine Powerhouse in Grass Valley a few days ago for Aubry's fun, relaxed senior portrait session. Starz Dance - Center for the Arts

Fabulous, entertaining show filled with amazing local dance talent, both amateur and professional! My daughter, Sonya, is involved in the show each year both as a performer and a choreographer so I enjoy bringing my cameras, .. with dancers on stage there are so many photo ops. Jessica and Joe - Rehearsal and Zip Lines

This is the 3rd in a series of blogs of the Jessica and Joe experience. The morning of the second day in Costa Rica we drove from Jaco up to Zephyr Palace for the wedding rehearsal. Out of this world architecture, gorgeous views, ..reminds me a little of Hearst Castle, on a mountain top overtlooking the Pacific, but tropical. The infinity pool and columns provide a dramatic backdrop for the ceremony.
That afternoon we loaded up the vans and headed to Herradura, near Jaco beach, for the Vista Los Suenos Canopy tour, aka zip lines! What a blast! Thirteen lines on 222 acres of transitional forest. A sampling of photos below. Enjoy!
